Founded in 2022 by Los Angeles based multidisciplinary designer & artist Ruth Black, who was just looking for a great blouse. Unable to find one without labels and artifice that demoted her to “object” and/or teenager, and speaking to friends who were having the same issue - Black made it her quest to solve this. She called her like-minded friends, fellow artists & designers, Iliana de Boisblanc and Kaylee Ubias and later adding Kristi Head.

With everything designed and hand sewn, beaded and embroidered in their LA atelier, they spent years developing patterns, creating pieces that fit and flatter real women. They specifically chose the finest silks, wools and cashmeres, sumptuous fabrics that float effortlessly, never requiring over-design. Adding to the upstart outside irreverence of their spirit, Maison Ruf prints are not signature “labels,” instead the women of Maison Ruf have created their own mesmerizing prints that truly capture their collaborative spirit and meaning behind their brand. Look closer at those elegant “hounds”tooth, herring”bone” and paisley prints, you’ll find that best friend you wish you could take everywhere - your dog!   In 2026, they launched their flagship boutique in Los Angeles where all everyone is welcome and of course, they welcome dogs!
